CNC router templates cut on a Thunder Laser

Router templates make it easy to cut complex shapes and repeatable patterns with precision. In this project, Pete from Thunder Laser's YouTube channel shows how he designed and cut a collection of tileable router templates using the Thunder Laser Nova 24 60W CO₂ laser. These templates are perfect for adding creative textures and designs to furniture, wall panels, tabletops, or large sculptural pieces.

What's Included

Two file formats are provided so you can work however you prefer:

  • Autodesk Fusion Files (.f3d / .dxf): Full design files you can edit, tweak, and export to modify the templates for your own use.
  • LightBurn Files (.lbrn2): Ready-to-cut project files with all settings dialed in for ¼" cast acrylic on a Thunder Laser. Perfect if you just want to jump in and start cutting.

Templates Available for Download

Pete created a variety of designs, each tileable — shift and repeat them in any direction to cover as much space as you want:

  • Star Wars®-inspired sci-fi panels – great for themed builds and wall accents.
  • Hexagonal patterns – ideal for geometric designs and sculptural work.
  • Animal print patterns – add unique detail to furniture tops or fill with epoxy for bold inlays.
  • Tetris®-inspired tileable template – cut endlessly repeatable panels to create large-scale textures.

Notes for Cutting

  • Files are pre-configured for ¼" cast acrylic.
  • If you are cutting a different material, adjust your speed and power settings in LightBurn.
  • Templates include screw holes for secure mounting, but you can also use double-sided tape depending on your project.
  • Test cuts are always recommended to ensure the safety and durability of your templates.
