Thunder Laser vs Aeon Laser

Built to run simple. Priced lower at every tier. On your floor in two weeks.

You are comparing two real machines, so here is ours, straight. Every Thunder CO2 runs on a single RF metal tube, up to 120W, and every one of them is air cooled, built so the machine that does your work is also the one you rarely have to think about. Pricing starts at $5,795, and we start below the comparable Aeon at all three tiers. LightBurn comes in the box, licensed for two computers. An in-stock machine is on your floor in two weeks, backed by Thunder Laser USA, which has been selling and supporting these machines here since 2018. Send us your material and we will show you the rest on the thing you actually cut.

Where the real difference is

Nobody calls us on the day they are comparing spec sheets.

Aeon and Thunder both build capable CO2 lasers in the same price neighborhood, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Cross-shopping the two is reasonable. But we can tell you exactly what the calls to our sales line sound like, because we take them every week, and almost none of them are about specs.

They are from an owner seven years into a machine that is down right now, who says the company they bought from is not the company it used to be. They are from someone who got shipped the wrong part and was told it should not be a problem. They are from a shop that has been going back and forth on a quote for six months and still does not have a laser on the floor. One buyer told us flatly that it came down to Thunder or Aeon, and she picked us because we felt closer to home.

That is the day the decision actually gets made, and it is years after the spec sheet stopped mattering. So we built for that day. A knowledge base and a video library deep enough that most problems never become a ticket. Two weeks to your floor on an in-stock machine. And the same company that sold you the machine still standing behind it, doing this since 2018, with nobody in the middle of being acquired by anyone.

What actually decides it

Price, build, and how fast it gets to you.

The price

Published, and lower at every tier.

A Bolt is $5,795 against a Mira from $5,999. A Nova Plus is $8,350 against a Nova S from $19,999. A Titan is $16,250 against a Super Nova from $26,999. Lower at the entry, lower in the middle, and lower where the production machines live.

The build

Designed by people who clean them.

One air cooled RF metal tube up to 120W. Infrared autofocus with no probe hanging below the cone to catch your material. A honeycomb that seats on pegs so you can square work off it. Pull-out trays underneath so cleanout takes minutes. Small things, until you do them every week.

The lead time

Two weeks, not two seasons.

An in-stock machine is on your floor in two weeks. If your exact model and wattage is not on the floor, it is generally six weeks or less, and your rep tells you which one you are before you sign. Aeon's own tracker page currently estimates three to four months.

The backup

The deepest library in the industry.

LightBurn included and licensed for two computers. A free hour of remote training. Unboxing and setup videos, a knowledge base that walks you through real repairs, and new tutorials coming out constantly. US-based technicians on both coasts behind all of it.

Aeon specifications, pricing, warranty, support hours, parts count and lead time language from aeonlaser.us, August 2026, taken from the individual Mira 5S, Mira 7S, Mira 9S, Nova 14S, Nova 16S, Super Nova 14S and Super Nova 16S product pages, the accessories collection, and the FAQ. Aeon lists both a sale price and a regular price on these models and both are shown. The Super Nova 16S is offered in four dual-source configurations, published at $29,999, $39,999, $41,999 and $69,999 respectively; the speed and cooling figures shown cover that range. Thunder specifications and pricing are published at thunderlaserusa.com. Where a figure was not published by Aeon, the claim was omitted rather than estimated.

From buyers who ran both

What Aeon owners tell us when they reach out.

“

I have a Mira Nine and I have had it since twenty nineteen. So about seven years. And right now I am broken. They have completely changed their customer service model, and unfortunately they are no longer customer service friendly.

Leslie, Aeon owner
“

My sister has one. She really loves it, she thinks it is great, and she was really pushing me toward it. However, Z-axis height on a Thunder is significantly better.

Jackie, cross-shopping a Nova Plus
“

I have had this machine, knock on wood, for over a year and I have not had one problem with it.

Felicia, buying her second Bolt Pro
The two source machine

If the tube is sized right, you do not need a second one.

Aeon's Super Nova puts two laser sources in one cabinet in every configuration they sell, pairing a CO2 tube for cutting with a second RF or fiber source for engraving. It is a clever pitch, and for a shop that truly needs CO2 and fiber in one footprint it is a real answer. For most shops it is solving a problem a properly sized single tube does not have.

Here is the part that gets lost: cutting speed is a function of wattage, not of how many tubes you own. Raise the wattage and you cut faster. An 80W tube already cuts about three quarters of an inch of wood or a full inch of acrylic, and we sell up to 120W on both the Nova Plus and the Titan. Engraving speed comes from the motion system, which is where the Titan's 8G acceleration does the work.

And the good version of the two source machine is not what it looks like at first glance. A Super Nova 16S at $29,999 is a 150W glass tube with a 60W RF alongside it. To get an RF metal tube doing the primary work you are at $41,999, and their ceramic RF with a MOPA fiber source is $69,999. A fully loaded Titan 51 at 120W is $30,000.

The other half is what you own afterward. Two sources means two things to align, two things to maintain, and two things that can put the machine down, with a water chiller running alongside them. On a Nova Plus none of that exists, because one air cooled tube does the whole job.

One correctly sized tube. One thing to maintain, one thing to replace. That is the simpler machine to own, and it is the one we build.

What changed at Aeon in March

Aeon Laser USA was acquired by its Chinese manufacturer. Here it is in their words.

On March 2, 2026, Aeon Laser USA sent an official announcement to its customers. Rather than characterize it, we are quoting it directly so you can read it the same way we did.

"Aeon Laser USA is being officially acquired by Suzhou Aeon Laser Technology Co., Ltd. (Aeon Laser China)."
"Effective March 2, 2026, all new Aeon Laser machine sales in the U.S., along with marketing and social media channels, will be managed directly by Aeon Laser China through its newly established U.S. entity: Aeon Laser USA, Inc."
"Starting March 2nd, 2026, all new customers purchasing under Aeon Laser USA, Inc. will be supported directly by Aeon Laser China."

The same announcement lays out a Phase 2 that gradually transfers technical support, warranty responsibilities, and spare parts fulfillment, notes that Aeon Laser China "is already building its U.S.-based aftersales infrastructure and team," and states that "no final date has been set for Phase 2 completion."

They may execute all of it well, and we hope they do. But if you order an Aeon today, you are a new customer under the new entity, during a transition their own announcement says is not finished. That is worth knowing before you spend the money, which is the only reason we are putting it in front of you.

Thunder Laser Global has been building machines since 2013, and Thunder Laser USA has been selling and supporting them out of Quitman, Texas since 2018. Same team, same building, same parts shelf. No transition underway, and no phase two to wait on.

The where it is built question

Both of these machines come from China. That part is not the question.

In 2026, where a machine is built is not a quality guarantee. There is excellent equipment and there is junk built in America, and exactly the same is true of China. The only things that matter are who builds the better machine and who is still standing behind it in year five.

Aeon's machines are built by Suzhou AEON Laser Technology Co., Ltd in Taicang City, Jiangsu Province, the same company that now owns the US operation. That manufacturer states on its own site that it exports the Mira and Nova series to more than 150 countries, and Aeon-branded Mira machines are listed for direct sale on Alibaba by suppliers in China. That is not a knock. It is just worth knowing exactly what you are buying and who you are buying it from.

Here is ours. Thunder Laser Global has been building machines since 2013, and has been the most premium laser coming out of China for well over a decade. Thunder Laser USA has been selling and supporting them here since 2018. That means a parts shelf stocked in Quitman, Texas, US-based technicians on a ticketed system working from both coasts, and the deepest knowledge base and video library in this industry, so most problems get solved before anyone has to open a ticket at all.

Ask both of us the same questions. Who builds it, who stocks the parts, who honors the warranty, who answers when it breaks, and how long have they been doing it here.

What comes with the machine

You are not going to be figuring this out alone.

A laser is only worth what you can get out of it. We have spent years building the library that gets you there, and we add to it every week.

1

Unboxing and setup, on video

Step by step from the crate to your first cut, filmed on the actual machine. You watch it, you follow it, you run a job the same day it lands.

2

A knowledge base that fixes things

The deepest library in this industry, written to walk an owner through a real repair or a real setting, not a page of marketing. Most problems get solved here before a ticket ever gets opened.

3

New tutorials constantly

We film every week. How to use a feature, how to make a product, how to dial in a material. Your machine keeps getting more useful long after you buy it, at no extra cost.

4

A free hour of remote training

A remote session, one on one with our team, walking your machine with you. Plus US-based technicians on a ticketed system when you want a person on it with you.

The people behind it

Real people, coast to coast.

Sales and parts run out of our Quitman, Texas facility. Our technicians work remotely from both coasts, so the time zone you are in is covered. This is the crew that writes the knowledge base, films the tutorials, works your ticket, and cuts your sample. Not a queue in another country, and not a chatbot.

Why buyers switch

What we hear from people who called us instead.

1

They wanted fewer things that can break

Once a machine has to earn its keep, buyers count failure points. Every CO2 we build runs one laser source, scaled up to 120W, and every machine we build is air cooled. No second source to align, and no water chiller to service or replace.

2

They wanted the machine this season

More than one buyer has told us they went back and forth for half a year and still did not have a laser on the floor. Aeon's own tracker page currently estimates three to four months for delivery. An in-stock Thunder is two weeks, and generally six weeks or less if your exact model is not on the floor. That gap is a whole selling season.

3

They needed the clearance and the bed

Z-axis height, a 63 inch bed, a pass-through on the Nova Plus 51 that takes material of any length, and rolled goods up to 60 inches wide. When the job gets bigger, the machine has to already fit it.

4

They were tired of fighting the machine

Infrared autofocus with nothing hanging below the cone, so a warped board cannot catch a probe pin and knock your head out of alignment. A honeycomb that seats on pegs instead of sliding, so you can square work off the bed. Trays that pull out for cleanout. Air assist that LightBurn switches between cut and engrave for you.

5

They wanted the answer, not the runaround

Machines break. What matters is how fast you are running again. We built the deepest knowledge base and video library in this industry so most fixes are documented before you ever open a ticket, and behind it are US-based technicians working from both coasts. Every machine also comes with a free hour of remote training so you are not learning it alone.

Straight answers

Questions cross-shoppers actually ask.

Aeon and Thunder look similar. What is the real difference?
Four things: what you maintain, what software you get, what it starts at, and who is behind it. Every Thunder CO2 runs one laser source, and the machines are air cooled with no water chiller in them, where every Aeon from the Mira 9S up has one and their Super Nova runs two sources. LightBurn comes included with our machine and licensed for two computers, where Aeon lists it as compatible. Our published starting price comes in under the Aeon in all three matchups. And behind our machines is the largest knowledge base in this industry and US-based technicians working from both coasts.
Which Thunder matches which Aeon?
It maps one to one. The Aeon Mira lines up with our Bolt, the engraving specialist, from $5,795 with an RF metal tube standard rather than an option. The Aeon Nova lines up with our Nova Plus, from $8,350, air cooled with no chiller in the cabinet, beds up to 63 inches and up to 120W. The Aeon Super Nova lines up with our Titan, from $16,250, on one premium Iradion RF tube at 8G acceleration rather than two sources. In all three matchups we start below the Aeon across from us. Not sure which fits? Send us your material and we will tell you straight.
Is an RF metal tube actually better than a glass tube?
For a machine you run as a business, yes, and it is the reason we do not sell a glass option at all. An RF metal tube gives you a smaller spot size for finer detail, instant on and off response, roughly 10,000 hours of life, and it is air cooled, so on a Nova Plus there is no water chiller in the machine. Aeon does offer RF metal on much of their line, and at high wattage, so this is not a line they cannot cross. The difference is that on a Thunder it is what you get, not a configuration you select and pay up for, and it comes without the chiller that sits alongside their tubes.
What about the Super Nova with two sources in it?
Every Super Nova configuration pairs a CO2 tube with a second RF or fiber source. If you genuinely need CO2 and fiber in one footprint, that is a real answer and worth looking at. Check the price of the configuration you actually want, though. The $29,999 Super Nova 16S is a 150W glass tube with a 60W RF beside it. An RF metal tube doing the primary work is $41,999, and the ceramic RF with a MOPA fiber source is $69,999. A fully loaded Titan 51 at 120W is $30,000, and if you need metal marking we would rather sell you a Titan and an Aurora as two purpose-built tools for well under that top number, each doing its job properly, with no shared cabinet to take both offline at once.
How fast can these machines actually engrave?
The Titan runs 3,000 mm/s at 8G acceleration, the Bolt up to 2,000 mm/s, and the Nova Plus up to 1,200 mm/s. Acceleration matters more on real jobs than a peak scan number does, because most engraving is short strokes where the head never gets near top speed, and the Titan and the Super Nova both run 8G. Aeon publishes 4,200 mm/s at 8G on their RF configurations and 1,500 mm/s at 5G on their glass ones, as of August 2026. The honest answer is that at this level both machines engrave faster than most work needs, so judge them on your own material rather than on a number, which is exactly what the free sample is for.
Is Thunder Laser made in the USA?
No, and neither is the Aeon you are comparing it to. Both machines are built in China. Aeon's are made by Suzhou AEON Laser Technology Co., Ltd in Taicang City, which states on its own site that it exports the Mira and Nova series to over 150 countries. In 2026 where a machine is built is not a quality guarantee, because there is excellent equipment and junk built in America and the same is true of China. Thunder Laser Global has been building machines since 2013 and has been the most premium laser coming out of China for well over a decade. Thunder Laser USA has been selling and supporting them here since 2018, with parts stocked in Quitman, Texas. Judge the machine and the people behind it.
I heard something changed at Aeon. What happened?
On March 2, 2026 Aeon Laser USA announced to its customers that it "is being officially acquired by Suzhou Aeon Laser Technology Co., Ltd. (Aeon Laser China)," and that effective that date all new US machine sales, marketing and social channels would be "managed directly by Aeon Laser China" through a newly established entity, Aeon Laser USA, Inc. The same announcement says all new customers under that entity "will be supported directly by Aeon Laser China," and describes a Phase 2 that gradually transfers technical support, warranty responsibilities and spare parts, with "no final date set" for completion. Those are their words, not ours, and they may run the transition well. We are simply telling you it is happening, because if you order today you are a new customer in the middle of it. Ask them where it stands and get the answer in writing.
Can I just buy one of these direct and cheaper?
You can find Aeon-branded Mira machines listed for direct sale on Alibaba by suppliers in China, and it is worth understanding what that means before you buy anything in this category. Buying a machine is the easy part. What you are actually paying a US company for is a stocked parts shelf, a warranty someone honors, a tech who knows your machine, and training that gets you producing. An in-stock Thunder ships nationwide on a liftgate truck in two weeks, with the LightBurn software included, a free hour of remote training, a parts shelf stocked in Quitman, Texas, and the deepest video and knowledge base library in this industry behind it. That is the part that is hard to buy direct.
How long will I wait for my machine?
Two weeks on a machine we have in stock. If the exact model and wattage you want is not on the floor, it is generally six weeks or less. Your rep will tell you which one you are looking at before you sign anything, not after. Aeon's own Laser Tracker page, as of August 2026, states "We currently estimate 3 to 4 months for delivery," and notes that "ETAs may adjust as production and processing scales." That is their number, not our characterization of it. If a delivery date matters to your season, ask both of us for one in writing and compare what you get back.
Why should I trust a comparison you wrote?
Fair question. Every Aeon fact on this page comes from aeonlaser.us, dated August 2026, and where we could not source a number we left the claim out rather than guess. We would rather lose the sale than win it on something that does not hold up. So here is the offer: send us your material, we will cut or mark it, and you judge for yourself.
The better buy

Simpler machine. Lower starting price. Answers when you need them.

One laser source, air cooled, with LightBurn in the box. A published price that starts below the Aeon in all three matchups. A Texas team supporting shops across this country since 2018. And a free sample on your own material before you spend a dollar. Let us settle it on the material you actually run.
